USW/IMP ENTER WEEK 8 of STRIKE

by | Sep 30, 2024

The Workers at IMP Aerostructures in Amherst, represented by the United Steelworkers union, are entering week 8 of a strike.

At the heart of the matter is fair wages. Almost all the employees working there are making less than a living wage.

Over the past decade, workers’ wages have risen a combined total of 90 cents an hour, while inflation, interest rates, and the cost of living have gone up.

The Labour dispute has dragged on much longer than many anticipated, with little movement by either side.

Last week, the Company presented an offer to the union that would see the workers’ buying power fall farther behind the cost of living and close the gap toward a minimum wage.

The union stands strong in its resolve for a modest pay increase that will keep up with yearly inflation.

The public support for striking workers is appreciated and strong!
